Our Ethos

Our Ethos: Nurturing Resilience, Building Futures

At Steady Hands Care, we believe that every child deserves a foundation of stability, warmth, and unwavering support. Our ethos is rooted in the "head, heart, and hands" approach of social pedagogy, ensuring that our home is not just a placement, but a sanctuary where children can heal, grow, and rediscover their potential.

Steady Hands Care is built on the foundations of safety, empathy, stability, and empowerment. We recognize the individual story behind every young person and provide holistic, trauma-informed care that supports their emotional recovery, builds resilience, and fosters self-worth. We believe in listening deeply, acting respectfully, and walking alongside children as they regain a sense of control and possibility in their lives.

We operate with a core set of values that Centre around the concepts of empowerment, personal growth, safety, and well-being. These values inform the way we approach our services, ensuring each young person is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Quality and Purpose of Care

Steady Hands Care offers a short-stay residential facility with three beds, catering to children and young people aged 8 to 18 years. This placement is specifically tailored for Looked After Children who may be experiencing transitions, crises, or require a period of stability and structured support. The young individuals referred to our service often present with a variety of needs, including:

  • Emotional and behavioral challenges
  • Trauma related to attachment
  • Self-harming behaviors
  • Inappropriate sexualized behavior
  • Substance misuse
  • Disengagement from education
  • Experiences of neglect and/or exploitation

At Steady Hands Care, we provide a safe, consistent, and engaging environment where young people can start to re-establish their sense of safety, identity, and control over their behaviors and choices. Although our placements are not long-term, we offer therapeutic oversight throughout the child's stay, ensuring access to emotional support, key working sessions, and practical guidance from our trained, trauma-informed staff. Each child is provided with a personalized activity program that aligns with their emotional needs, interests, and developmental goals during their 28-day stay.
